Musical Artists that Figure has worked with:

Glenn Branca

"beautiful, hallucinogenic violence thru music-
his Symphony No. 3 (Gloria) could very well be my favorite piece of music"

Thomas Rosenkranz

"the greatest pianist I've ever heard-
and a great friend"

Elliott Sharp

"an amazing multi-instrumentalist and composer-
his large body of work contains some of the greatest
moments of chaos and confusion, yet it remains orderly"

Musical Artists that Figure enjoys:

M. Gira

"formerly from Swans- now the leader of Angels Of Light and Body Lovers-
I can't think of anyone else whose work I've so consistently enjoyed throughout a (so far) 20 year span-
fantastic! I actually like to listen to his music over and over again (very rare for me)"

Scott Walker

"this guy has been around since the early 60s but it's mainly his most recent album "Tilt"
and some of "Climate Of Hunter" that I think of as absolutely glorious
dark, twisted, abstract..."

Toru Takemitsu

"Some of the most beautiful and dazzlingly specific orchestration has been done by this master of composition-
He did what I also try to achieve: transcendence and pulse, but not minimal, and a very visual form of music-
yes, a true master"

Juan Garcia Esquivel

"Some may be surprised by my crazed love for Esquivel, but they just don't know me as a whole-
He is a genius of arrangement and strange presentation- a founder of "light shows" so common at about every show now-a-days, and a pioneer of stereo recordings-
what he did with stereo is phenomenal! I'm a big production buff and headphone user and this truly is the greatest early work in stereo (especially the album Latinesque)- plus it's so blissfully hysterical and creative!"

Visual Artists that Figure enjoys:

Francis Bacon

"if you really aren't familiar with him, just go to this site,
or better yet pick up one of the many large books of his work-
I have over half a dozen books on or about him and carry a small one with me at almost all times,
so I guess I'm a bit of a fanatic"

Odd Nerdrum

"some of his canvases make me want to somehow roll myself into them- a modern Viking, like me!"

Hawk Duszek Alfredson

"some of the most psychedelic work ever put on canvas-
and a human being who I will always go out of my way to spend some time with-
his bigger pieces are my personal favorites (check out gallery 2 of this site)- amazing and mind-bending"

Film Directors that Figure enjoys:

Darren Aronofsky

"an amazing director whose second film is one of those rare works
of art that actually changed me (I'll never be the same person!)"

David Lynch

"probably my all-time favorite creative person- what can I say-
Blue Velvet, Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive and Twin Peaks are a few of his films/television shows-
this link is his own pay site but there is also a good info site at
http://www.mikedunn.com/lynch
okay"

David Fincher

"Fight Club is one of the best films ever made, on any level (as far as I'm concerned)-
he also did Seven (fantastic) and The Game (also quite recommended by me)- check out this excellent site-"

David Cronenberg

"One of my all-time favorites- When he's at his best his films start off kind of weird,
become almost repulsive, and before you know it the subject has become even more ridiculously bizarre, obsessive and dark,
but the ride from point A to point B makes it seem like the most natural thing in the world-
then you just have to keep watching the films over and over again-"

Alejandro Jodorowsky

"You may not have seen 'El Topo' or 'The Holy Mountain' but they are 2 of
the major creative masterpieces of 1970s cinema-
They are only available as pirate bootlegs from Europe or Japan (due to contractual bulldada)-
'Santa Sangria' can be found at most video stores with a decent foreign section-
check out his scenario for 'Dune' at this site-

Jeunet and Caro

"These guys are Giants- 'Delicatessen' and 'City Of Lost Children' are their collaborative films-
Jean-Pierre Juenet's latest film 'Amelie' is probably the most beautiful
and perfect film ever made- and Marc Caro has a new film coming out soon-
Fantastically creative!"

Authors that Figure enjoys:

William S. Burroughs

"Ultimately, my favorite author (and I'm not much for naming favorites)-
'The Ticket That Exploded' (which has inspired ideas for an opera, maybe in about 10 years... hmmm)
and 'The Place Of Dead Roads' are personal highlights
but it's all great!"

Milorad Pavic

"Incredible, psychedelic conceptual puzzles in the form of novels-
He has also written many short stories and poetry collections, but they seem to be unavailable in America-
This website feautures a story for computer and compass-"

Chuck Palahniuk

"Best known as the author of 'Fight Club', he has 3 other novels out so far,
and they are some of the most entertaining, excessive, anti-establishment, crazed, violent, radical and creative
books being written by a living author- this is an excellent site
with lots of excerpts, essays, interviews and other"

Various Others that Figure enjoys:

Penn & Teller

"Not only are these guys great performers, but they are truly intelligent human beings.
Just go read some interviews with them-"
